WHY I WALK
Water connects us all. It runs through the places we call home, through the stories we carry, and through the future we are responsible for protecting.
Some of us walk in honor of those already harmed by pollution, pipelines, and fossil fuel infrastructure. Some walk for children not yet born. Some walk for the streams, farms, forests, wetlands, and communities that raised us. Some walk because clean water should belong to everyone. Others walk because decisions about our land, water, health, and future should never be made without us.
Whatever brings you here, your story matters.
The Why I Walk campaign is an invitation to share that story. It invites people everywhere to share why they walk in solidarity with communities protecting water and defending the places they love, including those resisting projects like the proposed Constitution Pipeline.
You don't have to be physically present on the Women's Water Walk route to participate. You can walk wherever you are. Along your favorite creek. Through your neighborhood. Across a campus. Down a country road. Along a shoreline. Through a city park.
Whether you have spent decades organizing or are just beginning to learn about these issues, whether you live along the proposed Constitution Pipeline route or thousands of miles away, your story belongs here.
Each story is unique, but together they flow into something larger. Like the waters that connect us, our stories weave together across communities, generations, and movements to become one collective voice rooted in resistance, resilience, and renewal.
Wherever you walk, know that you are not walking alone.
SHARE YOUR STORY
Record a short video while walking. There is no need for fancy equipment, perfect lighting, or carefully chosen words. Simply share why you walk, who you walk for, or what you are protecting.
Your story might be deeply personal. It might be joyful. It might be rooted in grief, gratitude, or hope. There is no script and there is no wrong answer. Speak from the heart.
Once you've recorded your video, share it on TikTok, Instagram Reels, Facebook, or YouTube Shorts using the hashtags #WhyIWalk, #WomensWaterWalk, and #StopTheCON. Then invite someone else to share their story.
Just as water flows from one stream to another, stories have a way of reaching people we may never meet. One voice inspires another. One step becomes many. And like the waters that sustain us, our voices rise together, becoming a tide that even the most powerful cannot turn away from.
